The other is coming together. I enjoy working in paper collage and acrylic. They are such great mediums to be creative in. I will often be at work in my studio on my loom or something else and get these ideas for a collage so I just start working on it, I now have three pieces going. I love the opertunity to move from one idea to the next.!

I still have work to do on each of the pieces but that is the best part, putting the peices together and seeing the art grow!

Spin a Yarn

My newest mixed media work combines my collage with fiber and weaving. It is called “Spin a Yarn” . I had so much fun creating this tale of nature with paper, acrylic paint and hand spun and died yarn.

We had a wonderful turn out for the show at the Lancaster Theater in Grapevine. Thank you to everyone who came by. Sharen won peoples choice for her garden painting and I am so happy that my scarfs all went to good homes. See you at the Funky Finds Experience this weekend!

Moonshadow's beginning

I am working on a two canvas piece I call Moon Shadow, Moon Shadow. It is done in paper collage with Acrylic background. I have just started gathering the colors for his body and tail.

I have a lot more pieces to find and then I will start placing them where they go to create the final picture. I love looking for the right colors in the magazines and then putting them together. It takes a great deal of time to find the right color piece, but I enjoy the process, it is like mixing your colors of paint. I will post more pictures when Moon Shadow is complete.

Twin Mix II

This work is one in a series of collaborative efforts between Karen and I. Our inspiration for this piece, the Gulf Fritillary Butterfly and the beautifully intricate passion flower.  We have so many of these Fritillary Butterflies in our side yard, the reason we have them, is because we have several passion vines planted. These butterfly lay their eggs on the leaves of the passion vine, they are very small yellow spheres, which eventually produce the caterpillar. These guys have a ferocious appetite and could easily strip all the leaves on the vine. The leaves grow back, and the vine continues to produce its beautiful flower, as the chrysalis transform into the Fritillary butterfly. It is spectacular to come out in the morning and have 30 or more butterflies scurrying about our yard. Plant some passion vines, if they will thrive in your area,  you will be providing much needed habitat for many varieties of Fritillary butterflies and many photographic as well as painting opportunities.
